Software-defined storage separates storage software from the underlying hardware, enabling I and amp;O pros to provision and manage storage independent of the hardware while providing hardware choice. This creates benefits such as more efficient operations, improved backup and disaster recovery, and cost savings. IBM commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study and examine the potential return on investment (ROI) enterprises may realize by deploying IBM Spectrum Virtualize. IBM Spectrum Virtualize is a flexible software foundation that consolidates storage management across differing storage resources. To better understand the benefits, costs, and risks associated with this investment, Forrester interviewed several customers with years of experience using IBM Spectrum Virtualize. The purpose of this study is to provide readers with a framework to evaluate the potential financial impact of IBM Spectrum Virtualize on their organizations. IBM Spectrum Virtualize software is packaged with IBM FlashSystem arrays and SAN Volume Controller. It is also available in the cloud but that version is not part of this paper.
