MongoDB Inc. equipped its Atlas database service with a new capability that allows consumers to distribute a single database environment across multiple public clouds.

Atlas developers can deploy a single cluster simultaneously across Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft Azure with multi-cloud clusters. As per MongoDB, this ability will enable consumers to use multiple clouds without adding operational complexity of managing data replication, exportation, and migration across clouds.

Dev Ittycheria, CEO at MongoDB, commented: “Given the rapid innovations in cloud computing, customers are best served when they are given the freedom to choose how and where they run their workloads in the cloud.”

Further, Ittycheria added, “With the availability of MongoDB Atlas multi-cloud clusters, customers can build, deploy and run powerful, highly available applications across different cloud providers, giving them unprecedented flexibility on where they can deploy applications, and what services they can leverage from our cloud infrastructure partners. No one else offers this today, making MongoDB Atlas the most advanced cloud database available in the market.”

MongoDB claims that its Atlas service is the most widely available Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS), with a presence across 79 countries with over 18,800 consumers worldwide. According to MongoDB, Atlas service is exclusively available on all three major public clouds.

MongoDB Atlas is a cloud version of MongoDB’s namesake database that ranks as the industry’s most popular NoSQL system by downloads. It is easy to use and can store a variety of data. In the past quarter, MongoDB accounted for about USD 138.3 million in revenue by installing a sizable enterprise base.

Atlas is an important growth driver for MongoDB, accounting for over 40% of its revenue. MongoDB in April reported that Atlas surpassed about USD 200 million annualized revenue run rate in the fourth quarter.

This service is a significant contributor in generating the company’s revenue, year-over-year logging growth of about 66% in the second quarter.
