Cloud has almost completed twenty years as infrastructure solutions, over the years the technology has seen various iterations. Though if we ever consider cloud computing as a public utility introduced by scientists John McCarthy in the 1960s, many users remember seeing the business iterations such as the ASP (Application Service Provider) that was one of the failed steps but has completed more than 20 years. The cloud businesses matured to deliver SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS and to vary other as a Service offering now in the market. The cloud technology has witnessed varying technology and vendor hype around the marketing that was focused on the ‘All in,’ ‘everything Cloud’ to more recent statements that are being used for branding fear no cloud and even the race to zero. The businesses are rapidly moving that is driven by the price reduction on IaaS and PaaS offerings from the big name lead technology vendors in cloud. The rapid adoption of cloud technology is driven by making price reduction and bringing cloud solutions.

Cloud has been driven by a behavioral change in the business and its leaders that are enabling businesses to navigate around the Chief Information officer and technology policies to make such things happen. Through the utilization of their own revenue and cloud switch, it will provide new capabilities many have gone the way of shadow IT subscribing to different cloud-based requirements without IT knowing of the use or budget. The leaders have changed the landscape of consistent procurement, integration, and security across the business setup. Business leaders have embraced adding the new departmental agility and work towards bringing IT in the newly aligned strategy while the others added new strategies for application development. Businesses live in times when computing are often under threat with new usages cropping up, and requirements in businesses are rapidly under the change.

The businesses have to entertain three different types of business drivers that includes.

1. The CIO reports to the CFO, and we see the behaviors of a cost reduction business.

2. The CIO reports to the CEO typically resulting in an innovation focused business.

3. The CIO reports to the CTO, resulting in a product focused company.

The innovative businesses with successful growth focused. The initial gains are being included to deliver optimization for the business with a focus towards more seamless operations processes and better business insights for smarter solutions, the focus is more towards the revenue value add solutions and rather on the cost saving for the businesses.

There are currently three barriers that are pushing the cloud adoption for businesses; let’s have a brief look in the aspects of the same.

1. Business Culture

Enterprises that have a perfect culture for cloud adoption will include agility to bring the required changes and ease in leveraging the new emerging technology; Enterprises need to be receptive to changes that can ease the Business operation. For example, take legacy business firms that have repeatedly been denying the coming changes, the leadership is from the old world that has been more than unwilling to make changes. Such businesses do face the greatest risk that comes with added disruption, many of the businesses that were established on the old age method of infrastructure need bigger disruption as they keep struggling juggling between the modern and legacy or even completely go out of the businesses.

2. Tech religion

The frequent technology change is building business constraints, where the business is specially aligned to certain specific business brand. Many businesses have been questioned to elevate on their IT starter, and the resulting answers have been especially a certain brand name driven technology. When businesses demand agility and having a complete strategy that is specially designed to process new technology development, it should be irrespective of any specific brand name, that allows without mixing of technology approaches, platforms, and brands as they can be applied. In old business technology approach, many businesses have moved from the UNIX, LAN manager or Windows NT house instead of the agnostic approach using the Unix, NT, and perhaps VM. The approach can be business specific where either a single or mixed vendors can be used for best business outcomes.

3. Politics in the cloud

Politics can play a major role when organizations are usually bringing something new in the office that is all set to change the business process. Organizations find themselves going against performance indicators and best logic when emotions play a major role in business decisions. With certain brands being constantly favored with historic biasing or existing skill-sets that are all set to affect the business. Enterprises are being strongly pushed by the modern requirements from client or customers align their business with new innovative technology; it brings agility that develops the businesses in something more and assists the business to scale at a greater level with improved agility. Workplace politics or leadership preference can cripple the business infrastructure, as having too much reliance on the vendor will come with added business risks, though preference in technology is biased on usage or initial mental understanding about the provider.

Conclusion

Businesses are often focused on the major business problems that make them lose their focus when it comes to bringing innovation and agility in their business operation. We are living in the time of data, where data insights and data itself is one of the biggest currencies for businesses today and cloud being a near perfect solution that can deliver the required analytics tools and business technology for expansion.  What makes cloud solutions different from other technology solutions is that an enterprise just can’t buy in and decides on not using the technology. The additional cost and growing ability to data technology are all set to bring the cloud to the forefront of development. Businesses are often driven to new technology that is adaptive to the business environment and solves the major challenges, with various cloud vendors developing more and more solutions that can be customized based on any operational demand. Technology preference should be data biased decisions rather than preference. Business leaders need to make decisions that bring adaptability to current business setup and improves decision making.
